Sod can be installed at any time of the year when the ground can be tilled and irrigated. There's no need to wait for a specific season to establish a new lawn.

Yes, sod requires less effort than seeding and uses less water. Seeded lawns often need reseeding when seeds fail to germinate, and they are susceptible to challenges like bird interference, soil erosion, and wind. Seeded lawns also demand months of care and extra water to become usable. In contrast, a sod lawn is ready for use within a few weeks and looks green and appealing almost immediately since it consists of mature grass.

Remove all old grass using a sod cutter or manual labor with a shovel. Once you've reached bare soil, follow the soil preparation guidelines.

It's not recommended for several reasons. Rototilling struggles to break down the existing root system, resulting in clumpy ground. The old roots can also regrow and create unwanted grass patches in the new lawn. If you choose this method, invest time in removing clumps and as much root material as possible, making the ground as smooth as you can. Remember, better soil preparation leads to a better-looking new sod.

We currently sell a 4-way blend of Kentucky Bluegrass and a custom Texas hybrid blend tailored for the Rocky Mountain Region. This blend combines seeds to adapt and thrive in our unique climate. We are in the process of converting our entire field to the custom hybrid blend which combines Texas Bluegrass with Kentucky Bluegrass. This hybrid bluegrass adds heat tolerance and summer performance to your lawn.

The majority of turf grass grown in Colorado, are either a Kentucky Bluegrass blend or a Texas hybrid blend, they are known for their durability. They maintain a green appearance for an extended period, typically from March through the end of October.

Dogs, especially large breeds, can be tough on lawns. While Bluegrass is a durable turfgrass, it's not entirely resistant to dogs. Keep dogs off the new sod for at least a few weeks after installation. Afterward, the grass can handle their activity, but active dogs and a pristine lawn seldom coexist perfectly.

Each sod roll measures 6’ feet 8”inches in length by 18’ inches in width, totaling 10 square feet per roll. These rolls typically weigh between 30 to 40 pounds each.

We stack 50 rolls on a full pallet, providing you with 500 square feet of sod. You don’t need to purchase full pallets. Our minimum purchase is 1 roll.

It's best to minimize activity on the newly sodded area for the first month and attempt to restrict all foot traffic until after the initial mowing. During the initial weeks, frequent watering keeps the soil quite wet, and each step can create slight indentations. If you aim for a smooth, even lawn appearance, it's advisable to keep everyone off it until you return to a regular watering routine.

To ensure a snug fit, use a sharp, utility knife and cut from the dirt side of the roll. Small gaps between pieces are acceptable, as they will naturally fill in over time.

Please place your pick up order at least 1 day in advance to ensure availability. While we make every effort to accommodate walk-in orders, there is a possibility that we may sell out. Delivery orders should be placed at least 2 days in advance to allow for proper scheduling. In some cases, even a 3 day notice is advisable, as there are instances when our trucks are fully booked and we cannot accommodate deliveries on those days. It is important to note that all sod orders are subject to weather conditions.

Yes, you can pick up your orders at our location. It’s important to note that sod is quite heavy, with a full pallet weighing over 1 ton. If you don’t have a heavy-duty truck and/or trailer, you won’t be able to pick up more than one pallet at a time. There is no charge for pick-ups, and we have a loader available to assist you in loading your sod. For efficiency, we kindly request that any order exceeding 25 rolls be placed on a pallet. However, if you prefer to hand load rolls, we will do our best to assist you, though you may need to handle the loading yourself.

We offer delivery using a truck-mounted forklift which requires 8 feet in width clearance. We cannot navigate steep grades or stairs with the forklift, nor can we operate on soft or muddy surfaces. Our delivery driver will place the pallets in your requested area if it’s accessible, based on their discretion.

You can bring the pallets back to our location during regular business hours for a refund. ALL pick-up orders must include original receipt. Delivery order returns are accepted with name and address of order. Unfortunately, we cannot exchange our pallets for others as we use a specific size designed for use with our harvesting equipment.

The first mowing should take place between 3.5 to 4 weeks after installation. It's essential to temporarily halt watering to allow the grass to dry and the ground to firm up adequately for mowing. On the initial mowing, begin with a higher mower blade setting. Lower blade setting for subsequent mowing. Always remember not to trim more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mowing session.

If proper soil preparation was carried out, you won't need to aerate for at least a full year. However, if the ground wasn't tilled before installation, it's advisable to aerate the following spring.

The initial fertilization should not occur earlier than six weeks after the sod installation. Subsequently, throughout the growing season, apply fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks.

In specific cities, permits may be necessary either for installing sod or for watering newly installed sod during times of water restrictions. It's always advisable to check with your local city or water provider to determine whether these permits are required in your particular situation. Notably, the Cities of Aurora and Castle Rock have permit requirements for sod installations.
